1) Know all COVID and health requirements before flying to your chosen destination

Although many countries have opened their borders to international travel, they still have requirements for tourists to actually step foot into their country. Many countries require a negative COVID test prior to landing, depending on the country, the time can range from 72 to 48 hours before landing. Other countries may require a person to be fully vaccinated and in this case, make sure to bring your proof of vaccination (vaccination card). Some countries may require both a negative COVID test and a full vaccination record. Whatever they require, it is important to do your research well before your flight and to be mindful when choosing your travel destination.

2) Bring proper PPE

As of right now, the United States does not require masks in certain environments and situations. Travel by plane or public transportation, though, still requires full mask use. So, when entering an airport, make sure to be wearing proper PPE. This includes while on the plane for the whole duration of the flight.

3) Plan on visiting minimal countries

When traveling, especially internationally, you want to get as much bang for your buck. This means you’ll want to travel to different countries within the same continent. If you plan on country hopping, make sure to do your research beforehand to make sure you are following all requirements and precautions for each individual country. Each country has different rules and laws in place during this time, so it is important to stay up to date with their news. If this may be too stressful for you and your travel group, stick to one or two countries to visit! You can still see and experience so much within one country.

4) Support Local Businesses

As the pandemic lengthened, we saw the negative results it had on the economy, especially for local businesses. At home, we try to support our local businesses as much as possible, so it is only obvious to do the same when traveling. Supporting local businesses usually means experiencing cultures authentically while learning more about the country’s history and people, so this is something we have always recommended when traveling internationally!

5) Be mindful and responsible

We absolutely adore traveling and the whole experience behind it. From trying different cuisines and exploring new areas to learning about the history and culture of a place— that’s what travel is all about. While doing so, we always have to remind ourselves to be mindful of the people, culture, and land we visit. We are tourists being welcomed into people’s homes and lives, so we want to make sure to be responsible when traveling and only leaving behind amazing memories and laughs.
